DC Safe Haven Harm Reduction Launch
Baltimore Safe Haven provides harm reduction services to communities of color, with a focus on Black transgender women, using a model that relies on peers with lived experience of homelessness, violence, substance misuse, and/or sex work to provide case management, counseling, Harm Reduction tools, HIV testing, and other supports. With a grant from FORE, the organization will launch a mobile outreach program in the District of Columbia. As part of the DC Safe Haven Mobile Outreach program, four peer outreach workers will make night and weekend stops in neighborhoods where overdoses are prevalent and LGBT sex work takes place. The team will promote safe drug use and connect people with culturally competent health care services.
