Reviewing the SUPPORT Act and FY2023 Omnibus to Assess Federal Levers Addressing the Opioid Crisis
At the end of 2022, Congress passed the FY2023 budget omnibus bill with several opioid crisis-related provisions and in 2023 it is expected to reauthorize the Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promises Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act. The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), a Washington, D.C.–based think tank, will conduct policy analysis and develop educational materials to inform and engage policymakers in Congress and the presidential administration. The project builds on a previous grant to BPC, which led to the creation of a national Opioid Crisis Task Force that highlighted strategies for more effectively targeting federal opioid-related spending to meet needs for treatment and reduce overdose mortality.
