Doing Right at Birth 2.0: De-Implementing Routine Drug Testing and Reflex Child Welfare Reporting Policies in Hospitals
With FORE funding, the Doing Right by Birth program developed training materials that educate health care professionals about the legal, scientific, and ethical dimensions of reporting pregnant people with opioid use disorder (OUD) to child welfare agencies. It also trained a cohort of providers who will champion changes in hospital policies, protocols, practices, ensuing they don’t deter people with OUD from seeking care. With additional funding, the program will train a second cohort of health care professionals to promote evidence-based drug testing and child welfare reporting practices in their own institutions.
