We are pleased to welcome David Mineta, MSW, to FORE’s Board of Directors.
Mr. Mineta is the president and CEO of Momentum for Health, one of the largest private nonprofit providers dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral health services in California’s Santa Clara County.
He is nationally recognized for his leadership in the prevention and treatment of substance misuse as well as recovery services. From 2010 to 2015, he served as deputy director of demand reduction for the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy. Prior to his presidential appointment, he was deputy director of Asian American Recovery Services, a program that offers culturally tailored services in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“It’s a privilege to be part of an organization that is doing such important work to reduce the stigma attached to substance use disorders and ensure people receive the supports they need,” Mr. Mineta says.
Mr. Mineta has also served on FORE’s Scientific Advisory Council since September 2021. “His perspectives and insights will be invaluable to the board as we expand our mission to support the most effective, patient-centered, evidence-based solutions to the opioid crisis,” said Karen A. Scott, MD, MPH, FORE’s president.
He has a master’s degree in social work from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Andrea Barthwell, MD, Chair of FORE’s Board of Directors, says Mr. Mineta’s depth of experience as a behavioral health counselor and his commitment to empowering people facing addiction and other mental health challenges make him uniquely suited to advancing FORE’s mission. “His approach is very much aligned with FORE’s vision of collaborating with partners across the country to develop and spread solutions to the opioid crisis. I look forward to working with him,” she says.
