FORE’s 2024 Impact Report Celebrates the Power of Partnership

April 16, 2025

We launched FORE in 2018 with a mission to find and foster solutions to the opioid and overdose crisis and a clear vision: that fostering collaboration among people and organizations in different sectors, disciplines, and regions would lead us to the most pressing problems and the people who were most passionate and effective at solving them.

Across 34 states, FORE grants are supporting new partnerships among researchers, clinicians, community-based organizations, policymakers, and people affected by opioid use. We are excited to share some of their successes in our 2024 Impact Report. Because we have more inspiring examples than space to share them, we focused this year’s report on programs across the U.S. that save lives by focusing on populations at highest risk of opioid use disorder and overdose deaths.

Many of our grantees take aim at the stigma that prevents people from seeking help and work to engage new partners — pharmacists, clergy, and teachers among them — to connect individuals and families affected by opioid use with the supports they need to thrive. Others have leveraged data and new communication strategies to alert policymakers and people who use drugs to emerging risks and evidence-based models for addressing them.

“Our grantees show solutions are within our reach,” says Karen A. Scott, MD, MPH, FORE’s President. “They also demonstrate it’s possible to catalyze systemic change by prioritizing collaboration and offering flexible supports that enable organizations and communities to build durable programs around local needs.”
