September 14, 2023

The Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) is excited to mark its first five years of accelerating solutions to the opioid and overdose crisis during National Recovery Month! We invite you to join us for the following virtual events on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 to recognize the incredible work of our grantees and discuss how we continue to advance solutions to the opioid and overdose crisis.

National Press Club Briefing: New Initiatives to Fight the Opioid and Overdose Crisis Facing America’s Youth
September 27, 2023, 9-10 AM EST

FORE recognizes the need for holistic prevention strategies and is supporting several projects that are engaging and empowering vulnerable families and communities to prevent opioid use disorder and overdose. In July this year, we convened a program advisory meeting to identify gaps in the continuum of supports for children and youth who use drugs and are at risk of overdose. As fentanyl, xylazine and other adulterated substances continue to devastate our youth, FORE will be announcing it is expanding its work with children, youth, and families.

Please join us virtually for a live event at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on September 27th  from 9-10 AM EST as FORE discusses innovative solutions, exciting new partnerships, and how policymakers, health care providers, parents, caregivers, educators, and all involved in the future of our children can work together to improve parent-child relationships and family resilience. Speakers will include (more to be announced):

  • Andrea Barthwell, MD, DFASAM, Chair of FORE’s Board of Directors
  • Karen A. Scott, MD, MPH, President of FORE
  • Sivabalaji Kaliamurthy, MD, Child and Adolescent Addiction Psychiatrist at Children’s National Hospital and Howard University
  • Jeanette Betancourt, EdD, Senior Vice President for U.S. Social Impact at Sesame Workshop
  • Debra Waldron, MD, MPH, FAAP, Senior Vice President, Healthy Resilient Children, Youth and Families at the American Academy of Pediatrics
