June 07, 2021

We are pleased to welcome the newest member of our Scientific Advisory Council: Stephen Taylor, M.D., M.P.H., a psychiatrist who focuses on helping adolescents and adults avoid or overcome addiction disorders and cooccurring psychiatric disorders. For 14 years, Dr. Taylor has served as medical director of the Player Assistance and Anti-Drug Program of the National Basketball Association/National Basketball Players Association. He also serves as the chief medical officer of the behavioral health division at Pathway Healthcare, which operates 13 mental health and addiction treatment centers across Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas. In addition, Dr. Taylor is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s (ASAM) board of directors and chairs ASAM’s delegation to the American Medicine Association’s House of Delegates.

With Taylor, FORE’s Scientific Advisory Council now includes eight experts in diverse fields related to the opioid crisis: addiction medicine, behavioral health, adolescent medicine, pain management, reproductive health, addiction recovery and wellness, and legal and policy issues related to substance use disorders.

“Dr. Taylor’s experience in practice and leadership will serve as an invaluable resource to the foundation,” says Karen A. Scott, M.D., M.P.H., FORE’s president. “We lean on our scientific advisory council members for high-level guidance about how the foundation can add value as well as practical grantmaking strategies.”
