Issue Brief: Expanding Access to Opioid Use Disorder Treatment in Emergency Departments
Emergency departments are often considered the “front door” of treatment for opioid use disorder because their staff are among the first clinicians people recovering from an overdose see. This issue brief describes how three FORE grantees, the National Emergency Medicine Consortium, are working collaboratively to educate clinicians about the benefits of initiating medications for opioid use disorder in the emergency department and guiding patients to community providers who can provide ongoing care.
